It’s Lunar New Year on Friday – the East Asian New Year celebration, also known as the Spring Festival. This year rings in the ‘Year of the Dog’, so we asked some of our favourite influencers and dog-owners about their plans, favourite Lunar New Year’s memories and, of course, their pets…

Ashley Lau @ash_lsl

What do you usually wear for LNY?
Definitely lots of bright colours.

How do you celebrate the LNY festival?
We always have dinner at my grandma’s house because she’s such a good cook! Then we light fireworks in our backyard with all my relatives.

Can you tell us something about your dog?
I never feel lonely when I’m home alone thanks to my dog Waves. Seeing him always makes me so happy.

Tell us about your favourite New Year memory?
Me and my family always go travelling on the fourth day of Lunar New Year – usually to Thailand – and we make the best memories there.

Abigail Kan @abigail_kan

What do you usually wear for LNY? What is your go-to piece?
I only wear a red dress once a year and that’s for Lunar New Year.

How do you celebrate the LNY festival? And who will you be celebrating with?
My favourite thing about Lunar New Year is that the whole family is reunited. I have relatives all over the world, so it’s the perfect time to properly catch up over a big feast. We usually spend the next couple of days back in my hometown, where we just eat local delicacies, sleep and repeat!

What do you eat during Lunar New Year?
My grandma makes our favourite wanton noodles with mushroom gravy every first morning of the Lunar New Year. You can’t get that anywhere else in the world!

Tell us about your favourite New Year memory…
Every year, my family and I drive back to our hometown, Ipoh, on the eve of Lunar New Year. We leave at 4 in the morning and arrive before sunrise. You should see the state of our car — it’s filled to the brim with snacks and goodies.

Can you tell us something about your dog?
My dog Shelly once covered our entire living room in tissue while we were out. We were so shocked when we came home!

Chloe Choo @chloeandchoo

What do you usually wear for LNY? What is your go-to piece?
I’m pretty relaxed, it usually depends on my mood that day!

How do you celebrate the LNY festival? And who will you be celebrating it with?
My family is pretty big, so we start by heading out to my grandma’s place and spend the rest of the day catching up with all my other relatives.

What do you eat during Lunar New Year?
There are so many goodies made for LNY! My favourites are Kueh Bangkit, Almond Cookies, Steamed Yam Cake, Prawn Crackers and Love Letters.

What are your Lunar New Year wishes?
For everyone to have a good laugh and to be healthy this year.

Tell us your favourite LNY memory?
It definitely has to be the time when I was 8 years old and my grandfather surprised me with a lion costume I really wanted!

Can you tell us something about your dog?
There are three dogs in my family. Tattoo, our eldest, joined us 11 years ago. We adopted Kimchi and Scooby around 4 years ago.

Nana @nanabwincess

What do you usually wear for LNY? What is your go-to piece?
Definitely red for the first day. My usual go-to style would be casual chic. I’m never without my Topshop jeans and jersey basics!

How do you celebrate the LNY festival? And who will you be celebrating with?
It’s all about spending time with my family. We usually start off with prayers at the temple, followed by reuniting and gathering with all my relatives at my grandma’s place – and lots of feasting!

Can you tell us something about your dog?
My dog is called Woody, because we went to Disneyland shortly before we got him. Having a dog is having a companion in life that will love you unconditionally and never leave you – no matter what.

Ava Foo @avafoo

What do you usually wear for LNY? What is your go-to piece?
I usually wear casual clothes that are warm and simple. I like coats and casual jeans.

How do you celebrate the LNY festival? And who will you be celebrating with?
I usually celebrate by spending time with my parents and friends in Shanghai. We just have dinner, go to karaoke or play board games.

What do you eat during Lunar New Year?
We eat dishes traditional to Shanghai, like red cooked pork or Yan Du Xian soup.

What are your Lunar New Year wishes?
I always wish for the same thing – I just hope that everyone I love will stay healthy and happy.

Tell us about your favourite New Year memory?
Last year, I went to Changchun with my husband and met his relatives for the first time, even though we’d already been married for two years! And I went skiing, which was really fun.

Can you tell us something about your dog?
My dog’s name is Punky and he’s 3 years old.
